What is an all-in-one smartcard?
An all-in-one smartcard provides students, faculty and staff with a convenient and secure way for students and employees to access campus services, including the library, technology labs, meal plans and some facilities. Those who opt to open a checking account with UW Credit Union can also use the card as a debit card for PIN-based transactions.
Will my current card continue to work for campus services?
Yes. Your current card will allow you to access the same campus services as long as you remain a student or employee.
Do I have to open a UW Credit Union account or change where I bank?
No. Students, staff and faculty are free to choose any financial institution with whom they would like to do business. This is an optional program and the campus doesn’t receive income based on the personal financial decisions of campus consumers.
Do I need to get a new TitanCard?
You will need to get a new TitanCard if you open a UW Credit Union account and wish to link it to your TitanCard.
What’s the procedure for getting a new card?
Come to Titan Central in Reeve Union anytime during regular business hours. You will need to turn in your old TitanCard to receive a new TitanCard. No replacement fee will be charged.
What happens to my Titan Dollars when a new card is issued?
Titan Dollars will automatically be transferred onto your new card at the time of production.
What if I don’t turn in my old card or can’t find it?
Titan Central will issue you a new card, assess a $20 replacement fee and transfer your Titan Dollar balance to the new card.
Why did the University select a new financial services partner?
The existing contracts for financial services with US Bank and UW Oshkosh Credit Union expire on December 31, 2010. UW Oshkosh followed a competitive bidding process to select and contract with UW Credit Union and, as part of that contract, will receive financial consideration that will be used for student scholarships, including the Student Titan Employment Program (STEP), and possibly provide support for wellness programs for employees.
Who decided to choose UW Credit Union?
The review committee was made up of students, faculty and staff, with students having the largest representation.
What presence will UW Credit Union have on campus?
UW Credit Union will have a full-service branch office in Reeve Union and surcharge-free ATMs across campus. The new academic building will also contain an ATM. In addition, UW Credit Union provides robust online account access and service.
What advantage does partnering with UW Credit Union have for the University?
The UW Credit Union contract provides significant annual compensation to the University, which could exceed $1.5 million over the full potential 10-year contract. This will be used to fund scholarships, high-impact student employment opportunities, and potentially additional funding for employee wellness programming. The contract provides a guaranteed annual payment, rather than a a model based on the number of students and staff with checking accounts at the partner financial institution. This means the revenue is guaranteed whether one member of the campus community or every member of the campus community signs up with UW Credit Union. Additionally, UW Credit Union ATM terminals will be surcharge free, so both members and nonmembers will not have to pay a terminal fee to access funds from the machines.
What are the benefits of a UW Credit Union account?
UW Credit Union offers checking account packages free from any fees. In addition, UW Credit Union maintains consumer friendly overdraft fee practices. For example, they do not assess any overdraft NSF fees related to regular debit card transactions and charge no more than one NSF or overdraft fee per business day, regardless of how many overdraft items are involved. Other financial institutions charge multiple NSF fees, up to six per day. Additionally, accounts overdrawn by less than $10 are not assessed overdraft fees at all.
How can I sign up for a new UW Credit Union account?
UW Credit Union representatives will be on campus in Reeve Union beginning January 2011, or you can open an account online at uwcu.org.
Is the credit union branch located at 90 Wisconsin Street included in this contract?
