Many student groups and organizations make significant contributions to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. These groups should be recognized for their efforts to assist in our becoming a national model as a responsive, progressive and scholarly public service community known for its accomplished record of engaging people and ideas.

As a result, an annual spring awards ceremony and reception has been established for those student groups, organizations, and individual leaders that are nominated and selected for the following awards:

  • Outstanding Emerging Leader

Eligibility: Any enrolled student member of a recognized student organization at UW Oshkosh during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student for taking the initiative to become active within a student organization, campus activity, and is making a difference to the campus community from beyond the classroom.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this student for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: What role does this individual play in the organization? How have you seen this student develop into a leader? What things do you see this student achieving next in your organization?

3) List of student’s involvement within the organization and contributions the individual has made within the group.

4) Attach: Any other supporting documents you want the review committee to consider. This could include additional letters of recommendation, meeting minutes/agendas, additional campus/community involvement of the student.

  • Outstanding Student Leader

Eligibility: Any enrolled student member of a recognized student organization at UW Oshkosh during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student for being highly active and holding leadership roles within student organizations, involvement in service activities and activities within the University and surrounding community.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this student for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How would you describe this student’s leadership style? How does this student communicate within their organization? How does this student build relationships within your organization and within the campus community?

3) List of student’s involvement within the organization and contributions the individual has made within the group.

4) Attach: Any other supporting documents you want the review committee to consider. This could include additional letters of recommendation, meeting minutes/agendas, additional campus/community involvement of the student.

  • Outstanding Organization President

Eligibility: Any president of a recognized student organization at UW Oshkosh during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes an organization president that has made a significant impact in the leadership and development of their organization.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this student for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How would you describe this student’s leadership style? How has this student upheld the mission/vision of their organization? What lasting impressions has this student left on their organization? How has this student motivated their organization?

3) List of student’s involvement within the organization and contributions the individual has made within the group.

4) Attach: Any other supporting documents you want the review committee to consider. This could include additional letters of recommendation, meeting minutes/agendas, additional campus/community involvement of the student.

  • Advisor of the Year

Eligibility: Any advisor of a recognized student organization at UW Oshkosh during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes an organization advisor that has provided superb support, guidance, and direction to the student organization. Any individual, including all classified/unclassified faculty and staff, that serve as an advisor for a OSA registered student organization is eligible for nomination. Nominee's advisory activities must be on a volunteer basis. Volunteers are defined as individuals who advise a student group outside their primary job responsibilities and the advisory responsibilities would not be listed in their job description for employment.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How has this advisor contributed to their organization? How would you describe their advising style?

3) Attach: Any other supporting documents you want the review committee to consider. This could include additional letters of recommendation, meeting minutes/agendas, additional campus/community involvement of the advisor.

  • Outstanding Cultural Event

Eligibility: Any recognized student organization providing a meaningful cultural event between March 15, 2013 and April 18, 2014. Student Organizations must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year.

Criteria: This award is to recognize a student organization that has actively prepared and implemented a cultural event that built a sense of community, brought awareness and appreciation of the various cultures, and enriched the lives of the University community.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How did this event build a sense of community in the UW Oshkosh community? How did this event help bring awareness to different cultures? How did this event help broaden the perspectives of our students?

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Outstanding Academic/Educational Program

Eligibility: Any recognized student organization providing a meaningful academic/educational program between March 15, 2013 and April 18, 2014. Student Organizations must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student organization that has presented an exceptional educational program that addressed a topic or issue with the goal of educating the campus community.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How did this program educate our campus community? What was the organization hoping to teach our students?

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Inclusion Excellence (Organization)

Eligibility: Any student organization that has shown a commitment to inclusion excellence throughout the 2013-2014 academic year. Student Organization must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student organization that has shown development and sustained passion for the advancement of diversity and inclusion.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How has the student organization shown a commitment and passion for diversity and inclusion? How has this organization worked towards a diverse representation of race, gender, sexual orientation, thought, disability, religion, etc.? How has this organization shown growth in the area of diversity and inclusion?

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Emerging Volunteer of the Year

Eligibility: Any full time student in good standing with the University during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a full time student in good standing with the University who has become active in the areas of volunteerism and service.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this student for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How would you describe this student’s leadership style? How has this individual responded to a need at the campus, community or world level?

3) List of the number of volunteer/service hours completed during the 2013-2014 academic year.

4) Attach: Any other supporting documents you want the review committee to consider. This could include additional letters of recommendation, meeting minutes/agendas, additional campus/community involvement of the student.

  • Volunteer of the Year

Eligibility: Any full time student in good standing with the University during the 2013-2014 academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes full time student in good standing with the University who has excelled in the areas of volunteerism and service.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this student for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How would you describe this student’s leadership style? How has this individual responded to a need at the direct service level? How has this individual responded to a need at the campus, community or world level?

3) List of the number of volunteer/service hours completed during the 2013-2014 academic year.

4) Attach: Any other supporting documents you want the review committee to consider. This could include additional letters of recommendation, meeting minutes/agendas, additional campus/community involvement of the student.

  • Volunteer Organization of the Year

Eligibility: Any student organization that has a commitment to volunteerism and service throughout the 2013-2014 academic year. Student Organization must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student organization that has shown an ongoing commitment to volunteerism and service.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: What volunteer work has the organization done throughout the year? How has this organization responded to a need at the campus, community or world level?

4) List: A description of the service done by organization members. Also, list the number of members in the organization, the number of projects completed, and the number of volunteer hours completed.

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Volunteer Event of the Year

Eligibility: Program occurred between March 15, 2013 and April 18, 2014. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year. Program was student initiated, directed, and implemented.

Criteria: Recognizes a successful volunteer event geared towards the UW Oshkosh community.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How did the student organization respond to a need at the campus, community or world level? What type of service was done during the event?

4) List: The number of volunteers in attendance and the number of hours per volunteer. Also, the historical information of the event (if applicable).

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Co-Sponsorship Program

Eligibility: Program occurred between March 15, 2013 and April 18, 2014. Any involved Student Organizations must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year. Program was student initiated, directed, and implemented.

Criteria: Recognizes a student organization that achieved a successful co-sponsored event that incorporated the cooperation and involvement of one or more other organizations or departments to accomplish the goals of the program.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How effectively did the involved organizations work together? How were resources combined and responsibility shared? How did the co-sponsorship add to the effectiveness of the event?

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Innovation/Creativity

Eligibility: A Program from a Student Organization which occurred between March 15, 2013 and April 18, 2014. Student Organizations must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student organization that has shown great innovation and creativity by introducing new ideas and activities to the campus community in order to carry out the mission and purpose of their organization. This could be a brand new program or a program that has been reworked/redesigned.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How has this organization displayed innovation and creativity? What new ideas did this organization implement? Or, how did this organization rework a program in an innovative way?

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Publicity of the Year Award

Eligibility: A program occurred between March 15, 2013 and April 18, 2014. Student Organization must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year. Program was student initiated, directed, and implemented.

Criteria: Recognizes student organization for establishing an exemplary and comprehensive publicity campaign for a program or series of events that resulted in a successful event.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How did this organization effectively promote this event or series? What methods of promotion did this organization utilize? How did the event publicity contribute to the success of the event?

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • New/Emerging Organization

Eligibility: Any student organization newly recognized during the 2013-2014 academic year. Student Organization must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student organization that has made a significant impact in its first year as a recognized organization through programming, education, or membership.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: How has this student organization been successful in their first year? How has this student organization recruited new members? What new programs did this organization create? How has this organization worked with others in the UW Oshkosh community?

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

  • Most Improved Organization

Eligibility: Any student organization that has shown improvements throughout the 2013-2014 academic year. The student organization must be recognized by the Oshkosh Student Association. Majority of members are undergraduate or graduate students enrolled for the current academic year.

Criteria: Recognizes a student organization that has shown great improvement in the areas of membership development, program development, or overall campus involvement.

1) An in-depth explanation about why you are nominating this organization for an award.

2) Question(s) to be answered by nominator: In what ways has the student organization improved? This improvement could be in the areas of membership, membership development, program development, campus outreach or campus involvement.

3) Attach: Any supporting documents that will help the review committee. This could include anything regarding the event planning process, event promotion or event reviews/evaluations, member testimonials, meeting minutes/agendas.

Recipients will not be announced until the awards ceremony.  Organizations will receive a $50.00 Reeve Union Gift Card and individual student leader award recipients will receive a $100.00 scholarship while the advisor will be honored with an engraved award.

 All those nominated and those receiving awards will be recognized at the Celebration of Student Leadership & Involvement on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 7:00 pm in Reeve Union Ballroom (227).  RSVP will be required.
