Information about Capture The Flag

Capture The Flag (CTF)

CTF is an event sponsored by Late Night Programs and Donner Hall.  All participants must sign a waiver once a season, and realize there is a possibility of injury during the game.  Participants are responsible for their own safety and health care as a result of injury.

NEXT CTF GAME:

Thursday, May 28 at 9:00 PM
Meet on the Algoma St side of the Fredrich March Theatre

CTF Rules:

Capture The Flag UW-Oshkosh, 2009

These rules are written as an adaptive document.  Changes will be made as necessary.  All rules are governed by a “fair play” clause.  Meaning that everyone should play fairly and remember it is just a game after all.  It is more important to have a good time than to win the game.

1.    CTF is open for everyone to play.  Individuals who are caught cheating, being unfair, or who are rude, will not be invited to play again.  Please keep it friendly.
2.    Boundaries will be defined at the start of the game.  A line of cones will define the midline.  A CTF field is evenly divided into two halves.  Each half will have one jail.  The location will be predetermined at the start of the game.
3.    Flag Location: each team hides their flag at the start of each game.  The flag must be visible from a standing position, from at least one direction.  The flag cannot be placed on an end line or sideline (at least 10 feet away).
4.    Jail/Flag Guarding: Players from Team A on Side A are not allowed to stand within 10 feet of their own Jail/Flag unless a player from Team B is within that bubble.  Once Player B enters the 10-foot bubble, the player from Team A can do so.  However, if Player B leaves the bubble, so must Player A.
5.    If Player B enters Side A and is tagged by a player from Side A, a player must escort Player B to jail within 15 seconds.  If Player B is not escorted within 15 seconds that player may resume their play.
6.    To "capture" a player from the other team you simply need to tag that individual.  A tag counts any single hand contact to the player’s body or clothing.  Honesty should be used by all players involved; after all, it is just a game.  No tackling, pushing, or rough play allowed.
7.    While being escorted to jail players must go directly to jail.  They are not allowed to scope for the hiding flag.  They must stay with their escort, at their escorts pace.
8.    Jail Break: If a member of team A gets to team B’s jail, they may free one of their captives (earliest person captured). The two team A members then get a free walk-back to their side.  During the walk-balk the individuals must go directly back, they are not allowed to scope for the flag or cause distractions.
9.    Jail Percentage Rule: When jail capacity goes over 50%, the earliest team member captured may have a free walk-back to their side. During the walk-balk the individuals must go directly back, they are not allowed to scope for the flag or cause distractions.
10.    If a player from Team A moves Team B's flag and is tagged before returning to Team A's side, the flag is placed at the spot the tag happened.
11.    In order to win the game either team needs to move the other team’s flag past the midline to their own side.
12.    Each player must wear a color band depicting which side they are on.  The color bands should be worn clearly, not deceptively.  Spikes may be worn, no metal cleats.
13.    Players should be conscientious of the grounds.  Do not destroy flowerbeds, bushes, or other campus property.  Potholes may be present, be careful.
14.    All players must sign a waiver once a season after they have read the rules and safety concerns.
